Every BREAKFAST work is built from scratch — custom electronics, proprietary software, mechanical systems designed and fabricated in-house at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. From intimate private pieces to 70-foot landmark installations.
It starts with your space, your vision, and what the work needs to do. BREAKFAST works directly with clients — no sales team, no middlemen.
Concept development, site analysis, data integration strategy, and full technical engineering. Renderings and prototypes before fabrication begins.
Built end-to-end at the Brooklyn Navy Yard studio. Circuit boards, software, mechanical systems — nothing outsourced. Installed and calibrated on-site by BREAKFAST's team.
Editions and small commissions for homes, private offices, and personal spaces. Designed for close viewing — every disc, every movement, meant to be studied.
Lobby installations, hotel commissions, corporate headquarters. Large enough to command a space, integrated with site-specific data where relevant.
Multi-year engineering projects at architectural scale. These are the works BREAKFAST is best known for — immersive, site-specific, built to last generations.
Thousands of individually controlled electromagnetic discs that rotate between states. No LEDs, no screens — physical motion driven by electromagnets. BREAKFAST's signature medium, used in the majority of the catalog. Each disc can be stopped at precise angles or left to spin freely. Built from aluminum, designed to last 100+ years.
BREAKFAST's proprietary full-color kinetic technology. Mechanical pixels — each brick contains a stepper motor, PCB, and LEDs, rotating continuously through 360°. Outer surfaces can be finished in mirror, wood, stone, or custom materials. Deployed indoors and outdoors at scales up to 53 feet.
Computer-controlled tiles that move along linear rails, each equipped with custom actuators and brushless motors. Capable of fluid, wave-like motion across large surfaces. Debuted in The Pearl — nearly 3,000 Sway Tiles forming a 53-foot-wide sculpture driven by real-time tidal and wind data.
Lightweight kinetic elements that respond to natural wind patterns. No motors, no electricity — pure mechanical response to the environment. Used in outdoor installations where the movement of air becomes the artwork's medium.
Motorized vertical elements that sway in response to real-time data — wind speed, direction, energy production. Each reed moves independently, creating organic, grass-like motion at scale. Designed for outdoor environments and built to withstand the elements.
A medium developed over two years to live outdoors and move 24 hours a day. Engineered for decades of continuous operation, Rings bring kinetic motion to exterior environments where durability and weather resistance are critical.
Flexible kinetic elements that bend, twist, and undulate under mechanical control. A newer medium in BREAKFAST's repertoire, designed to introduce organic, fluid movement to sculptural surfaces.
Whether you have a specific space in mind or you're just starting to think about it — BREAKFAST is happy to talk.
