"Merrimack River" explores our connection to water and the living systems that sustain us. The sculpture moves in direct response to the river itself, drawing live flow readings from the U.S. Geological Survey’s sensor network just upstream. As the river quickens or slows, the piece shifts in concert — a physical reflection of the water’s current life and motion.
Long admired for its beauty and resilience, the Merrimack has undergone cycles of change shaped by human impact and renewal. Here, its present-day vitality is mirrored back to us, inviting awareness and care while honoring its enduring spirit.
When viewers approach, their silhouettes ripple across the mirrored surface, binding human presence to the river and its ongoing story.
