Miami, Florida – Nov 3, 2025 — This Miami Art Week, 1 Hotel South Beach and Tala Beach present a series of site-responsive installations by Brooklyn-based kinetic and data artist BREAKFAST, curated by NicoleMarie Advisory. The presentation brings together seven monumental, kinetic works that translate live environmental data into kinetic movements, transforming abstract climate metrics into tangible, sensory experiences that unfold across the hotel’s façade, lobby, and beachfront.
From December 2–8, 2025, Carbon Wake and Consumption will activate the hotel façade and Tala Beach, while Antarctic Ice, Water 80, and the Climate Shift Series will remain on view in the hotel lobby through January 5, 2026. Together, these installations make the invisible forces of climate change visible, transforming data into movement, light, and form that reveal the planet’s shifting rhythms.
Following its celebrated debut at Art Dubai 2025, Carbon Wake takes centre stage at the entrance of 1 Hotel South Beach Miami — a 20-foot-wide, gold-mirrored kinetic sculpture visualising real-time carbon emissions from cities around the globe. Each motion ripple mirrors atmospheric change, creating a hypnotic choreography of reflection and rhythm that renders the world’s energy consumption eerily beautiful.

Render of Carbon Wake in front of 1 Hotel South Beach
Inside, works including Antarctic Ice, Water 80, and a new series by the artist called Climate Shift, will transform the hotel’s interior into a dynamic, responsive environment. Crafted from marble, gold-tinted steel, and custom-engineered components, each sculpture captures a fragment of the planet’s ecological pulse — from oceanic shifts and melting ice to the heat signatures of human presence.
On the beachfront, Consumption offers the most provocative encounter. Feeding from live datasets that track global production and waste, the sculpture responds in real time to human consumption patterns, its mechanical surfaces accelerating, contracting, and reshaping as collective demand rises and falls. The result is both captivating and unsettling: a luminous choreography of motion that exposes the beauty and volatility of excess.
“Miami is at the frontline of climate change — you can literally feel it in the air and see it in the water,” says BREAKFAST, the Brooklyn-based artist. “My goal is to turn those invisible patterns — the tides, the heat, the emissions — into something people can see, feel, and connect with. It’s not about screens or simulations, but about creating digital works that live and breathe in the real world, just like the city itself.”

Consumption will visualize the real-time water consumption in Miami.
For 1 Hotel South Beach, the installation reinforces the brand’s long-standing commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and cultural engagement. By integrating BREAKFAST’s site-responsive works into both the hotel lobby and beachfront, the property transforms its spaces into immersive platforms for reflection, dialogue, and learning. Guests and visitors are invited to move through the sculptures, witness the rhythms of water and ice, and confront the human impact on natural systems directly and tangibly.
“Hosting BREAKFAST’s work allows our guests and the public to experience climate realities in an inviting and immersive way,” says 1 Hotel South Beach’s Regional Vice President of Operations Milton Sgarbi. “By blending art, technology, and ecological insight, we aim to deepen our community’s understanding of sustainability through moments that are as thought-provoking as they are beautiful.”
The result is an installation that blurs boundaries between sculpture, architecture, and environmental data — a living interface between human behaviour and planetary consequence.

Dubai, UAE – March 28, 2025 — Renowned data and kinetic artist BREAKFAST will debut a monumental new sculpture, Carbon Wake, at Art Dubai 2025, on view from April 16–20. The 7-meter-wide interactive piece will anchor the Digital section of the fair, marking a major moment in the evolution of data-driven kinetic art.
Crafted from gold-mirrored stainless steel and powered by a custom-built mechanical system, Carbon Wake is driven by real-time energy data from over 100 cities around the world. The sculpture interprets these fluctuations through dramatic physical motion: as fossil fuel usage rises, kinetic tiles ripple upward; when cleaner energy prevails, the surface calms and descends. The piece also responds to nearby viewers, creating a fully immersive, reactive experience.

"Carbon Wake" (2025) — stainless steel, motors, AI, and software — visualizes the rising and falling carbon output of 100+ global cities, reacting to viewers in real time.
In addition to Carbon Wake, BREAKFAST will present a curated selection of kinetic works at his solo booth (X6 at Mina A’Salam), showcasing how real-time data can be transformed into elegant, reactive sculptures that bring climate narratives to life.
Among these works are pieces from the Warming Seas series, including Lisbon Warming Sea and Brisbane Warming Sea (shown above), which use live ocean temperature data to reveal an increasing layer of gold as marine heat levels rise. Also on display is Interwoven Existence, first exhibited at the 2024 Venice Biennale, featuring over 6,000 kinetic flip discs orchestrated to visualize human interconnection.

"Lisbon Warming Sea" (2025) and Brisbane Warming Sea (2025), part of BREAKFAST’s series that responds to rising ocean temperatures using real-time environmental data.

"Interwoven Existence" (2024), originally shown at the Venice Biennale, visualizes human connection using over 6,000 motorized flip discs.
Also featured is Water, a tactile and poetic kinetic sculpture that behaves like a shimmering body of water. As viewers move their hands in front of it, the surface reacts with graceful wave-like ripples. Yet beneath its mesmerizing motion lies a deeper commentary: the sculpture is connected to real-time drought data and adjusts its responsiveness based on the dryness of a selected region of the world. In areas experiencing long-term drought, the surface becomes increasingly shallow and muted — a haunting reminder of vanishing water.
“Water is about fragility — both in nature and in how we perceive our control over it,” says BREAKFAST. “It invites interaction, but limits it based on the planet’s condition.”

"Water" (2025), a kinetic sculpture that mimics the behavior of water and responds to real-time drought data from around the world.
BREAKFAST has emerged as a leading voice in the convergence of technology and fine art. His works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, NEOM, Rockefeller Center, Harvard University, and World Expo Dubai, and are held in significant private and institutional collections. His latest commissions include The Pearl (2024), the largest kinetic sculpture ever built aboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas.
BREAKFAST is also a featured AI and robotics artist in NVIDIA’s AI Art Gallery, further solidifying his role at the forefront of technological creativity.

Brooklyn, New York — BREAKFAST, a Brooklyn-based new media artist, introduced their latest kinetic art sculpture on Royal Caribbean's new ship, Icon of the Seas. Titled "The Pearl," this piece is recognized as the largest kinetic art sculpture in the world, showcasing an unprecedented fusion of art and technology.
Spanning over 14 meters and with a diameter of 15.3 meters, The Pearl is composed of nearly 3,000 computer-driven kinetic tiles. This awe-inspiring work stands out not only for its sheer size but also for its ability to capture the essence of the ocean. The sculpture beautifully simulates various natural phenomena such as rolling waves, gentle breezes, shooting stars, and the dynamic ocean surface. Drawing its inspiration from the sea, the tiles are arranged in a Fibonacci sequence, echoing patterns found in marine life.
What sets the artwork apart is its utilization of data from nature. The sculpture's movements are influenced by real-time tidal and wind data from the Caribbean. By pulling this data from the web, it allows the piece to continuously transform, reflecting the current environmental conditions in an ever-evolving display of calmness or intensity.
The journey to bring The Pearl to life spanned over four years by BREAKFAST. This period was marked by innovative conceptualization, design, and custom fabrication of each part, underscoring the artist and their studio's commitment to craftsmanship and detailed execution.
Now residing on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas, The Pearl is not merely a sculpture; it is an immersive experience that invites viewers to engage with the rhythm and heart of the ocean. As the world's largest kinetic art sculpture, it is a landmark achievement for BREAKFAST and a significant addition to the world of contemporary art.

Las Vegas, Nevada — BREAKFAST, a Brooklyn-based new media artist, introduces their latest interactive kinetic art sculpture at the newly opened Fontainebleau Hotel in Las Vegas.
"Oceans," a kinetic sculpture, brings the essence of the world's oceans to the arid landscape of Las Vegas. Comprising 483 motorized elements known as "Brixels," this piece artfully replicates the movement of the ocean's surface. The sculpture is a living representation of the Earth's aquatic rhythms, with each motion driven by real-time oceanographic data collected from over a hundred coastal cities worldwide. In a rhythmic cycle, "Oceans" transforms every few minutes, seamlessly transitioning its undulating patterns to mirror the aquatic conditions of a featured city.
As viewers approach and raise their hand, the sculpture responds, seamlessly integrating their interaction into the aquatic tableau. This interactive exchange blurs the boundaries between art, technology, and the natural world, empowering the observer as a co-creator.
How it Works
"Oceans" is built using BREAKFAST's proprietary technology, Brixels, a medium meticulously developed and engineered by BREAKFAST. Brixels employ quiet and smooth stepper motors to rotate the genuine Carrara marble and brass-tinted stainless steel brick elements. The sculpture dynamically retrieves the latest tide data from the internet every minute, ensuring it reflects real-time wind values.

Denver, Colorado — BREAKFAST, a Brooklyn-based new media Art Studio, has unveiled a new interactive kinetic art sculpture at the new Block 162 building in downtown Denver.
Cedar Point Reeds is a kinetic sculpture visualizing the wind and wind energy production occurring at the Cedar Point Wind Farm—a 252 megawatt wind farm 80 miles east of Denver. The mechanical Reeds that make up the artwork move based on the real-time wind speed and bearing occurring at the wind farm. The power generation is represented by the illumination of the Reeds.
As we are all part of creating our sustainable future, the sculpture responds as one approaches it. The reeds will gather and illuminate in front of you, representing how we fit into the bigger story of achieving a clean energy future.
How it Works
Cedar Point Reeds is made of 400 Reeds—a medium developed and created by BREAKFAST specifically for this sculpture at Block 162 in Denver—which use silent stepper motors to quietly and smoothly move the elements back and forth. The sculpture downloads the latest wind data from the internet every minute to update the sculpture so it reflects the current wind values.

New York - This December, storied auction house Christie’s will offer its first-ever Internet-connected kinetic work — a digitally-responsive, mechanical portrait that blends visualizations of real-time arctic temperatures with images of its viewer, created by Brooklyn-based art studio, BREAKFAST.
The first in a groundbreaking limited-edition series on Climate Change, ”Svalbard Ice“ uses BREAKFAST’s patented Flip-Discs medium to reflect changing weather patterns in one of the world's northernmost archipelagos, (halfway between Norway and the North Pole), as well as the effects of global warming.

Measuring 34.7 inches square, “Svalbard Ice” features 3,136 patented electro-magnetic Flip-Discs that intelligently flip between multi-blue and gold to create a continuously evolving representation of live oceanic data, and combine it with any viewer’s silhouette.
“‘Svalbard Ice’ is a deeply interactive work meant to raise a powerful and complex set of questions about the world we live in, and the future of our species. Using forward-looking technology, it asks each of us to consider what will happen as we find ourselves underwater in an increasingly atomized society, and what to do when, despite an exponentially-growing abundance of knowledge, we still fall victim to our own dubious abilities to avoid catastrophe—especially when each of us is acting alone.” —Zolty, Co-Founder and Director of BREAKFAST
“It’s always a pleasure to experience art in new media, and what BREAKFAST is doing is far beyond the cutting edge. Svalbard Ice is a testament not only to BREAKFAST’s creative ingenuity and commitment to climate awareness, but to technology’s potential for revolutionizing artmaking.” — Noah Davis, Specialist and Head of First Open, Christie’s

“Svalbard Ice” will be part of the First Open | Post-War and Contemporary Art auction which will take place online from December 9-18. Christie's has set the estimate of “Svalbard Ice” at $8,000 - $12,000. The only other two pieces currently in the series, “Venice Water” and “Mauna Loa Air,” sold just last week for $25,000 each at the 2019 TEFAF Fall New York Show.

"Venice Water" (left) and "Mauna Loa Air" (right) are two other pieces from the Climate Change series that both sold at TEFAF in New York last week for $25,000 each.
The inclusion of BREAKFAST’s work in Christie’s sale reflects the art world’s growing interest in forward-looking works that incorporate new technology, also evidenced by Pace Gallery's launch of PaceX this fall. In 2018, Christie’s sold its first painting created by artificial intelligence, “Portrait of Edmond Belamy” for $432,500—more than 43 times its initial high estimate.
Founded in 2009, BREAKFAST is a new media art studio focused on creating software-and-hardware-driven artworks that transform the online world into tactile experiences, while also connecting viewers to distant and disparate geographies, realities, and data-streams. The studio's practice employs a unique blend of computer science, mechanical engineering, and playful, emotionally-striking aesthetics to invite audiences to reflect on the relationship between the physical, the digital, the global, and the intimate in the Information Age, as well as the changing relationships between human bodies and technological innovation.
Every two years, BREAKFAST invents a new kinetic medium that it can use to create new small-and-large-scale private and public artworks. Flip-Discs, unveiled in 2016, has been the basis for more than 40 exhibitions and permanent artworks across North America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Pulse is BREAKFAST's latest piece utilizing their kinetic medium called Brixels. It's installed at Equinox's new Global Headquarters which opened in Hudson Yards last month.
Brixels, the studio's latest medium, first appeared in 2018 with their piece Brixel Mirror. Their most recent piece which utilizes the medium was unveiled in September at Equinox’s new corporate global headquarters, which opened last month at Hudson Yards. The 22-foot tall, five-foot-wide permanent installation, “Pulse,” comprises 390 infinitely-rotating mirrored and matte-black kinetic bricks, synchronized to create a dynamic and fluid representation of movement, choreographed by software and controlled by data drawn from Equinox members entering their various locations around the world.
BREAKFAST’s next new medium will debut in December 2020 in Denver, CO, as part of a large-scale artwork stretching over 30-feet long.

Brooklyn, New York — BREAKFAST, a Brooklyn-based new media Art Studio, is currently exhibiting two new interactive kinetic artworks in the main lobby of Empire Stores in Brooklyn Bridge Park (Dumbo). Awaken 1 and Multiply 1 will be on exhibition through September.
Walk into the lobby of Empire Stores at noon on a weekend and you'll find streams of people lining up to experience the two new art pieces recently installed at the center of Empire Store's main lobby, just in front of the recently opened Time Out Market. You'll find adults and kids alike dancing and waving in front of the pieces, watching as their movements cause each artwork to respond with both movement and sound.
Awaken 1 is a 10-foot wide by 4-foot tall piece made up of an array of 168 mirrored stainless-steel "Brixels." Brixels are one of the technologies invented by BREAKFAST that they utilize as a medium to create their art. For Awaken 1, each Brixel reacts to a person's movement in front of it, responding by rotating the associated Brixel 90 degrees to reveal an illuminating light behind. As one's movement ceases, the Brixels rotate back to a flat position, where their subtle movements make the surface appear as though it was resting on a sheet of water. The piece is an exploration of human interaction with a robotic medium, with the medium expressing a reaction to a person’s movements through rotating Brixels with accentuated light. The piece can be used as a canvas by “drawing” with one’s hand in the air.

Multiply 1 utilizes another technology created by BREAKFAST called Flip-Discs. While Flip-Disc displays were originally invented in the 1960s for airport signage, BREAKFAST reinvented the technology in 2012, getting the discs to move over 10 times faster, and creating another medium to be utilized for reactive art. Multiply 1 initially appears as a static black canvas measuring about 4 ft x 1.5 ft, but as one approaches the piece the discs (about the size of a dime) come alive, revealing a high-gloss golden finish on the reverse side of the black. The piece displays a real-time version of yourself, and as you move, the discs create a "ticking" sound reminiscent of the old train-station signage from 70 years ago. As you begin to step back, your image duplicate, creating multiple versions of you to interact with. The piece allows one to see themselves in a simplified form, hear their bodies movements, and provide a new perspective on how they see their own form.
