# BREAKFAST — Kinetic Artist

> BREAKFAST (the artist name of Andrew Zolty) is a kinetic artist based at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York. Since 2009 he has created more than 350 kinetic artworks installed around the world, including the first interactive kinetic artwork shown at the Venice Biennale (2024) and The Pearl, the world's largest electro-mechanical kinetic sculpture, aboard Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas. He is the inventor of seven kinetic art mediums and the world's most prolific creator of flip-disc art.

BREAKFAST's work transforms live data — ocean temperatures, wind, carbon emissions, human movement — into physical mechanical motion. No screens, no projectors: thousands of individually controlled elements driven by custom electronics and proprietary software, all designed and built in-house by his 17-person studio team.

## Mediums

- [Flip-Discs](https://theartistbreakfast.com/flip-discs): Electromagnetic discs (also known as flip dots) that flip between two faces and hold position without power. BREAKFAST re-engineered the vintage transit-sign technology for fluid, video-like motion and sensor-driven interactivity. The largest body of flip-disc artwork in the world — over 350 pieces purchased or commissioned worldwide.
- [Brixels](https://theartistbreakfast.com/brixels): Motorized brick-scale pixels faced in marble, mirror, and metal that rotate to form images and motion at architectural scale.
- Wind Tiles, Sway Tiles, Reeds, and Rings: additional kinetic mediums by BREAKFAST, browsable in the works gallery.
